#GirlFriendsInPrayer Series || Authority In Prayer….

But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name:
Which were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God.”
-John 1:12-13

We know that prayer is an important spiritual discipline in our walk with God.
We know that a prayerless Christian cannot possibly be a Christian who is standing strong spiritually.. and so every Christian deires to be more prayerful… to be able to unlock what God has for us by putting into use the power of prayer.

But sometimes when we come to God in prayer, we come to His throne not really understanding the place we are praying from.. and so we gripe, complain and grumble when it seems like He does not hear us (it seems like but its not true as God gives heed to even our tears without words.)

So what do we need to understand as we come to God in prayer?

…as many that received him, he gave the power to become sons of God…

We must understand that we are God’s children.
And being God’s child is indicative of so many things:
He knows you
He loves you
He begat you (He gave birth to you and so every responsibility a Father has towards a child, He has towards you).

You are now a child of God.

What does it mean to be a Child of God?

First, you can now call God Abba Father (Father, Father) with all boldness and no guilt.
So you can now relate to God as your Father everything a Father should be to a child, He is to you and even better. Because earthly Fathers are limited but our Heavenly Father is unlimited there are no boundaries and no walls in His reach He would pull what He can down to reach you and He is serious about it.
Look what He did with His own son… just to be able to also call you a daughter of His.

Secondly you now have a right to your inheritance in Him.
Eternal life first, and then everything else that accrues to Jesus accrues to you.

Let’s trace this from the book of Galatians:

“Christ hath redeemed us from the curse of the law, being made a curse for us: for it is written, Cursed is every one that hangeth on a tree:
That the blessing of Abraham might come on the Gentiles through Jesus Christ; that we might receive the promise of the Spirit through faith.”
-Galatians 3:13&14

So Jesus became a curse for us, and died to reconcile us to Christ, so that the blessing of Abraham can now accrue to us.

How?

“Now to Abraham and his seed were the promises made. He saith not, And to seeds, as of many; but as of one, And to thy seed, which is Christ.”
-Galatians 3:16

To Abraham and his seed was the promise made but that seed wasn’t just Isaac and his descendants by blood, that seed was Jesus.
And now that Jesus has torn the veil and taken His place rightfully as that seed, He also brought many other sons and daughters to glory so those who believe in Him are now Children of God and also can be heirs and receive the promise/blessings of Abraham.

Stick with me for a minute and we will relate this to prayer in a bit…

“For you are all children of God through faith in Christ Jesus.
And all who have been united with Christ in baptism have put on the character of Christ, like putting on new clothes.
There is no longer Jew or Gentile, slave or free, male and female. For you are all one in Christ Jesus.
And now that you belong to Christ, you are the true children of Abraham. You are his heirs, and God’s promise to Abraham belongs to you.’
-Galatians 3:26-29

We, by virtue of what Jesus did for us on the cross (thank You Jesus!) and guess what?
We are now Children of God and so have also become heirs of God!
We can inherit the promise!
We can receive all the blessings that God promised to Abraham!

(Read Genesis 12 down to 15 to know the blessings and promises and also read Galatians 3 for a better understanding of this).

And so we are God’s own children..
His babies…
His daughters that He loves so much..

So when you come to God in prayer, if you are born again, do not ever give leeway to the lie that says that God is witholding things from you and being wicked and unresponsive to you.

No, the Father we have been reconciled to is full of mercy and compassion.
We did nothing to lay claim to His promises; He did it all, even before we knew that we needed what He has to give to us.
How cool is that?

Somebody say thank You Jesus where you are right now…

We are now children of God and heirs to the promises and blessings of Abraham promises God made Himself and is bound to fulfill. He never lets any of His word fall to the ground void and won’t start with you.

So never come to God with the mindset that He is wicked and does not hear you.
If you are His child then His heart practically beats for you. Before you come He already knows what youw ant to say and already knows your needs before you bring them to Him.
He is just good like that.

“So don’t worry about these things, saying, ‘What will we eat? What will we drink? What will we wear?’
These things dominate the thoughts of unbelievers, but your heavenly Father already knows all your needs.
Seek the Kingdom of God above all else, and live righteously, and he will give you everything you need.”
-Matthew 6:31-33

He already knows our needs before we come to Him and does the worrying about who He will send to us and how the Blessing can come to us.

So come to God in prayer knowing that you are all paid for with Jesus’ blood itself and its all settled.

You are a heir according to the promise… but Galatians also says that as long as a heir doesn’t know what he has, he remains as good as a slave.
So you must grow in this understanding of your authority as a child/heir of God and thats when your heart can be settled and you can walk in understanding in prayer.

Notice that Matthew 6 above also talks about some keys to getting your blessings accruing to you.

Seek first the kingdom of God…
And apart from that, there are also other keys in prayer… keys that turn the Father’s heart towards you.

Our relationship with our Heavenly Father is dynamic and we also have to understand our Father his personality, what makes Him smile etc. All these are keys we can use in prayer and these keys are all in the Word.

Before our meet this coming Saturday, we shall try to explore a bit of these keys.
