I wrote the above in my journal at a time God was convicting me about being focused ONLY on my bar finals with little or no time left for Him.
He spoke to me with the classic Mary and Martha story.
“As Jesus and the disciples continued on their way to Jerusalem, they came to a certain village where a woman named Martha welcomed them into her home.
Her sister, Mary, sat at the Lord’s feet, listening to what he taught.
But Martha was distracted by the big dinner she was preparing. She came to Jesus and said, “Lord, doesn’t it seem unfair to you that my sister just sits here while I do all the work? Tell her to come and help me.”
But the Lord said to her, “My dear Martha, you are worried and upset over all these details!
There is only one thing worth being concerned about. Mary has discovered it, and it will not be taken away from her.”
-Luke 10:38-42, NLT
Since the day that this passage spoke so strongly to me, it has not stopped being a “call me back” scripture for the days that I seem to have forgotten what is more important in my relationship with Jesus.
From our love and relationship conference, we know that God is also calling lots of us back to RELATIONSHIP AND INTIMACY with Him and the way He is showing us back to His heart is to SPEND TIME WITH HIM.
As simple as SPENDING TIME WITH GOD sounds, we know that it is one of the areas that many Christians default at today. Christians are generally humbled when they are asked about their prayer, word life and intimacy/relationship with Jesus – and that is because more often than not, they have veered off the path of SEEKING HIS FACE and not His gifts.
Sometimes this deviation is subtle and may not have been on for long and sometimes God really does need to do something almost miraculous to get some of us to go back to sitting at His feet again.
We hope that this series on the blog would serve as that miraculous work by God on your heart – to get you to sit back at the Master’s feet where you should be.
We would first of all examine those verses in Luke and what it means for us, with the aim of us again remembering the usefulness of sitting at Jesus’ feet and breaking down the roadblocks that have hitherto being our excuse.
Let’s begin:
As Jesus and the disciples continued on their way to Jerusalem, they came to a certain village where a woman named Martha welcomed them into her home.
Jesus came into Martha’s home –Martha opened her home to Jesus but she only ended there. She didn’t allow Him access to her.
You have opened your life to Jesus but are you letting Him water your life?
Are you spending time with Him? Time enough to let the relationship between you both blossom? If you don’t spend time together and water the relationship, the love might go dim. It might decrease.
So after salvation and giving your heart to Jesus, what next?
You just keep still and start giving your heart to other things like Martha did?
No.
That’s not what Jesus wants. He wants you to pull a seat up, sit down and “let’s talk, let’s relate”.
Will you respond to Him and answer His call to get to know you even as you get to know Him?
Her sister, Mary, sat at the Lord’s feet, listening to what he taught.
But Martha was distracted by the big dinner she was preparing.
Martha was the one who opened her home to Jesus but even she didn’t know what to do when Jesus comes knocking at the door of your life/house.
She thought that He wanted something from her and she wanted to please Him, not knowing that it is not so much as what you have to give to Him but what He has to give to you.
All the hustle and bustle you do in running around because you want to sow a seed of a million dollars to God as tithe while forgetting that what you get while spending time with Jesus is what really matters is all a DISTRACTION as Jesus called it.
You don’t add to Jesus; He is God all by Himself. All the things you do that you think you are doing for Him but is pulling you away from Him is not what matters. He wants to add to your life and He can only do that if you sit at His feet and LISTEN like Mary did.
Do you currently do that in your life?
What is your excuse?
Maybe your excuse is that you are actually doing something legitimate for God. You are about your assignments and His purpose for your life But all Jesus calls those things are DISTRACTIONS.
What is distracting you?
Your phone?
Social media?
Exams?
Your earthly relationships?
Your job?
Cooking for your spouse or looking after the household?
Are you distracted with preparations that you have to make for Jesus’s work just like Martha was?
What would be Jesus’ reply to all your running around if He was here with you physically right now?
But the Lord said to her, “My dear Martha, you are worried and upset over all these details!
There is only one thing worth being concerned about. Mary has discovered it, and it will not be taken away from her.
Jesus is not saying that all the other things aren’t important but if you are concerned with them so much that you leave out time with Jesus, He says that you are concerned about what is not important.
Would you give me my own time first of all in your life?
Would you chose sitting at my feet as your first priority?
Do you currently give Jesus His own time in your life?
PRAYER:
Lord I have strayed farther than I want to be. I have let busyness take your place. Lord I am sorry. Please forgive me. And call me back Lord. Please call me back. Let your voice be loud and clear in my ears. Pull me right back to loving you in the way that matters to you.

Do you currently struggle with sitting at Jesus’ feet?

Lots of love,
The women at the well
Just a few things:
We are currently working on our journal for women including “the Prayers for your future husband challenge” and guide to spending time with god all in one journal.
It would include clear-cut tips for spending time with God and lifting up areas of your life to God daily for Him to work on even as you commune with Him in the secret place.
The journal will only be made in line with orders so if you desire to have one, mail 4thewomenatthewell@gmail.com to pre-order your copy.
God bless you
