Rahab’s Child; The Child Of A Harlot

“Salmon was the father of Boaz. (Boaz’s mother was Rahab.) Boaz was the father of Obed. (Obed’s mother was Ruth.) Obed was the father of Jesse.”
Mathew 1:5 NCV

Ruth rubbed Boaz’s head. Some days, she still couldn’t believe that he was hers. They had been married for three weeks and sometimes she had to pinch herself to believe that she was married; and not just married, but married to the most eligible bachelor in Israel who treated her as a queen.
She.
Ruth.
A widow.
The moabitess.
When she came to God she expected nothing but he had given her everything. She was so grateful and desired to have a son like Boaz someday.
She wondered how Boaz grew up to be the amazing man he was. He was so kind and so devoted to the Lord.
She had something to ask him.
Laying intertwined in a spoon position on the bed, she asked, “My lord…”
“Hmm…”
She mustered up her courage, “please tell me about your mother”.
She had heard that his mother was a harlot but how could that be?
How could a harlot raise a wonderful man like Boaz? It was strange.
Boaz smiled, “I thought you would never ask.”
And here she was shaking in her boots and all the man did was smile in expectancy?
She could never understand this man God had given her. She decided to come clean.
“Uhm, the town women had been telling me some things about her but I didn’t want to believe it.”
Boaz smiled.
“Ruth… my mom was a harlot.”
Ruth struggled to say her next words.
“But I don’t understand. Then how are you like this?”
Boaz lay her head back down on his chest and caressed her cheek.
“My mother WAS a harlot Ruth. WAS. She came from Jericho when her people were destroyed but she dared to believe God to save her and He did”.
Boaz cast his mind back to those days when people would still call his mother Rahab the harlot to his hearing and he would come crying to her. She would simply say “Boaz, God has saved me.” She would smile and that would be the end of matter.
He didn’t know what she meant but now married with a moabitess woman – forbidden by the laws of God, he knew what she meant.
God had picked them out and singled them out as proof of his outstretched and saving arms to everyone who calls upon His name.
“My mother loved the Lord Ruth. She never forgot what He did for her. We grew up hearing about the saving power of God from her lips. She never tired of saying it.
She raised me up in the way of the Lord, always talking about how she never had the opportunity to know the Lord from a young age. And after hearing her testimony of God’s goodness, I also, personally wanted to know this God too and God has been good to me.
The name Rahab the harlot may never fade away as you have seen; its been years and the town women still found a way to tell you about it but in that name is God’s saving power graciously showed to my mother and His power to accept all who come to Him in humility…”
Boaz looked into Ruth’s eyes…
“Just as He accepted you my love. Just as He accepted you.”
“I am Rahab’s son – the son of the harlot but I am also descended from the lineage of the God who saved her.
In me her name finds expression in the goodness of God.”
Ruth looked at her husband – her gift. Her eyes pooled over with tears.
God knew. That only a man raised by a mother who was grafted into the line of God could love her a Moabite woman. Only he could look at her and not see Ruth, a woman descended from a nation birthed by an incestuous relationship.
Only Boaz could look at her and not see a second-class-goods widow but a woman who God had saved.
And by God’s grace, just like Rahab, they also would raise their children to be God’s own creations.

“Didn’t the Lord make you one with your wife? In body and spirit you are his. And what does he want? Godly children from your union. So guard your heart; remain loyal to the wife of your youth.”
Malachi 2:15 NLT
It is the Lord’s desire to get Godly children from the union of His sons and daughters. He desires to raise children that will spread His name to their generation and carry the torch to their cities for Christ.
How did Rahab the harlot raise her child Boaz to become a man who loved the Lord and was filled with great virtues?
We believe that she had a hunger to see her children love the Lord and that’s where it starts from; hunger to see our children love the Lord.
Do you even know that God desires that your children belong to Him?
Are you ready and eager to release your children into the hands of the Lord?
Pray today:
Father I lift up my children and my future children to you. I dedicate them into your hands Lord. Please help me to raise them in accordance with your ways. That they will love you with all of their hearts, all of their souls and all of their spirits. That they belong to you. Wholly. Fully in Jesus name.amen.
Teach me your ways that I may teach also the children you have given me your ways in Jesus name..amen.
“Train up a child in the way he should go, And when he is old he will not depart from it.”
Proverbs 22:6 NKJV
